SimplyLite is a new line of bakeware from CorningWare, made from a super-lightweight glass that acts just like regular glass or ceramic called Vitrelle glass laminate, which is three special layers of glass fused together. It's stain and odor resistant and easy to clean by hand or in the dishwasher.

SimplyLite comes with a limited three-year warranty against breaking, chipping, or staining. As part of this video (near the end) I throw the casserole and the Pyrex lid down on my hardwood floor to demonstrate how durable it is.

SimplyLite can be used in the oven, microwave, or freezer, but not on the stovetop or under the broiler. And it's made in the USA.

Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Feels deceptively light!, May 19, 2008

The CorningWare SimplyLite shipped in a deceptively large box; however when I picked up said box, it weighed at most one pound. It really is that light. It's quite a revolution in Corning Ware, for sure.

The dimensions given on Amazon are somewhat skewed. The usable space is about 7" x 7", and it's around 2.5" deep. The sides have lips that extend about 1/2" outwards to provide handles, and the lid adds about an additional inch in height.

My SimplyLite came with a Pyrex/Glass lid. Yes, I'm still old-fashioned, and I prefer Pyrex for my lids, at least they're oven proof that way. The base CorningWare is about the same weight as my Corelle plate, it's that light. It's rather deceptive, because for an item of this size you'd expect it to weigh much more, and it gives the perception of "cheap quality", although it's an excellent product. I believe the weight is lighter to improve break resistance.

There are a few issues that detract from the... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Glass lid broke on first use, December 1, 2009

I loved the whole idea of a lighter, thinner dish for cooking and serving, so even though it seemed like a lot of money for one piece, I was willing to try it. Unfortunately, the very first time I used it, to cook in the microwave, the glass shattered. And when I say shattered, I mean many tiny pieces of glass all over my microwave. It was a major mess to clean up, and on top of that I obviously had to throw my food away.

Interestingly, the dish itself survived just fine, and I still use it for serving. I am disappointed that the lid broke so quickly, though, and wonder if Corningware should not recommend it be used for cooking in the microwave... maybe only for reheating?

I've been trying to get in touch with their warranty dept, but they are hard to get hold of. Hopefully they will send me a new lid. I will update with whatever happens.

Product Description

Long known for its reliability in the kitchen, CorningWare adds easy use and simplicity to cooking with its SimplyLite bakeware line. A versatile collection, SimplyLite is made from a super-lightweight glass that acts like traditional glass or ceramic in use. Surprisingly durable, this material makes its easier to retrieve the dishes from high or low shelves, allows for nesting storage, and gives the arms of busy cooks a break. A smart choice for daily meals, SimplyLite comes in a crisp white with rounded corners, clean profiles, and integrated handles. Some pieces include bake-safe glass lids, while others feature durable plastic lids for storing food before or after meals. All pieces are notably easy to clean by hand or in the dishwasher.

With a glass lid for baking and a plastic one for storage, this SimplyLite casserole is a great choice for everyday recipes. Made in the U.S.A., it holds 1-1/2 quarts and nests for storage with other SimplyLite dishes. CorningWare also makes a similar casserole in a 2-1/2-quart size as well as casserole sets with serving cradles.

From the Manufacturer

Form and function are combined in an innovative and stylish next-generation bakeware, the CorningWare® SimplyLite™ collection, which delivers the cooking performance of traditional ceramic bakeware but at half the weight* of comparably shaped ceramic stoneware baking dishes. (*On average versus the leading ceramic bakeware brand.)

Made in America, CorningWare® SimplyLite™ bake and serveware is made of Vitrelle™ glass laminate, a proprietary advanced material made of three layers of glass which produces a bakeware with a durability far exceeding that of any single glass composition.

An alternative to weightier ceramic dishes, the SimplyLite™ collection was developed in response to market research that strongly indicated a consumer desire for bake and serveware that is easier to handle and maneuver in and out of the oven, to carry from kitchen to table and for guests to pass while entertaining.

SimplyLite™ bakeware offers real space-saving solutions, as well. The dishes with glass and plastic storage lids are designed to nest and stack within just 12 inches, leaving cabinets free for other storage.

And the bakeware is designed for effortless cleanups. The Vitrelle™ glass produces a smooth, non-porous surface that is both stain and odor resistant and dishwasher safe. Available in pure white, the CorningWare® SimplyLite™ bakeware collection is available in a variety of sets and open stock pieces.

Stylish accessories, including serving cradles, multi-functional serving pieces and portable carriers for transporting dishes, add to the contemporary look of the SimplyLite™ collection.
